Hello, my name is Duncan. I am a dedicated mindfulness-based psychotherapist working with individuals and couples, in person and online. My pronouns are he/him.
Mindfulness
Whether you are facing specific challenges or have a general sense that life isn’t going the way you would like it to, my intention is to offer a space to talk openly about what’s happening for you in a supportive, non-judgemental atmosphere.
Mindfulness is at the core of my approach. In essence, mindfulness is about becoming aware of your thoughts and feelings in different situations. It involves recognising automatic reactions and exploring alternative, more authentic ways of responding.
In therapy we have the space and time to process these situations and work out what you really need and what feels right for you. Often, these situations revolve around relationships with partners, friends, family, or colleagues, which can leave you experiencing emotions like anger, depression or anxiety. Similarly, our relationship with ourself can need some support if we have tendencies such self-criticism and self-sabotage. By bringing more awareness to your thoughts and feelings, new perspectives can emerge, new options can become available.
Ultimately, we all have an awareness of what is right for us but this can become clouded, particularly by other people’s expectations, beliefs and demands. Coming into therapy is an opportunity to reconnect with the part of yourself that knows what is right for you in any given moment.
Couples work
I also specialise in couples therapy. In relationships, sometimes patterns begin to form which can strain connection. Without support, it can be difficult to discuss these dynamics without escalating them. My intention is to offer a space to discuss these openly, by providing support and guidance in helping to identify the underlying issues and possible ways to work towards resolving them.
